Free Sedation Consultation!

Sedation dentistry is a wonderful solution for anyone who has let fear or anxiety stop them from visiting a dentist for months or even years. It is estimated that almost 75% of Americans have some degree of dental anxiety. With sedation dentistry, patients can complete their routine dental procedures or more complex treatment plans while feeling calm, relaxed, and totally at ease. We offer different sedation options for our patients depending on the severity of their anxiety. Dr. Wayne DiBartola and his staff will determine which sedation technique is right for you. Take advantage of our free sedation consultation to find out how sedation can help you!

Sedation dentistry uses medication to help patients relax during their dental appointment. It is sometimes called “sleep dentistry,” although, more accurately, you will usually be awake during the treatment, just deeply relaxed. Unless you are under general anesthesia, you will be awake for the procedure but your fears will be eliminated.

Our Pittsburgh sedation dental office uses three types of sedation depending on the level necessary for each specific patient.

Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) – Minimal sedation. Nitrous oxide will be administered through a nasal mask that you breathe from starting the procedure. This will reduce anxiety and discomfort. You are awake but relaxed. The effects wear off as soon as the face mask is removed and you can return to your normal daily schedule.

Moderate sedation- Also called “conscious sedation” this is usually administered in a pill form. You will start to feel drowsy and completely relaxed both physically and mentally. Dr. DiBartola and his staff will complete your treatments while watching your vital signs closely to ensure your safety. You will be able to communicate even though you are sedated. You will not be able to remember much of the procedure. Because the sedation wears off more slowly than laughing gas, you will need someone to drive you home following your procedure.

IV sedation- This is our deepest form of sedation usually used when a patient experiences severe anxiety or when they require multiple procedures to be completed in one office visit. You will be on the edge of consciousness but can still be awakened. We will administer a sedative through IV and you will be monitored throughout the entire procedure to ensure your comfort and safety. With this method, you will need a friend or relative to drive you home but should return to a normal state within a few hours of your appointment.

Yes, your sedation dentist will administer just enough sedation that you will be completely unaware of the treatment, as if you were asleep.

At the end of your treatment, you will have little or no memory of your treatment, providing you total peace of mind and eliminating worry.

Most patients experience no discomfort whatsoever during treatment and feel surprisingly calm and relaxed afterwards.

In addition to your general dentistry procedures, sedation dentists can generally do it all—implants, dentures, cosmetic dentistry treatments, crowns, even gum surgery.

Oral sedation dentistry protocols have been used safely for 30 years. Our sedation dentists will review your medical history and monitor you closely while under sedation.

DiBartola Dental will work with you to review your coverage and, if necessary, make financial arrangements so you get the care you need.

What Others Are Saying

“All I can say about Dr. D. and his staff is they are extraordinary. My wife and I have both had much needed dental work. Decided to head to Dr. D. What an experience. Had fillings, caps, cleanings, crowns, whitenings, and the dreaded root canals. My wife loves the availability of sedation. The Dr. and his staff are always making sure you are comfortable and pain free. Very attentive and friendly staff. They have state of the art equipment and procedures. I don’t think anybody enjoys going to the dentist, but I will say, nobody should be afraid of going to Dr. DiBartola. I enjoy the friendly, helpful staff, ease of appointments and the overall atmosphere of the office. You won’t find a better dentist or entire staff like Dr. D’s.”

“Haven’t been to the dentist in years due to fear, they made me feel safe and when I woke up everything was done. I don’t remember anything and it didn’t hurt. All I remember is Ashley bringing me to the room. Thank you to all the staff.”
